RE: tire cover retainers

You could use the "Hill Billy" tire covers like I do.
Stack to straw bales in front of each tire to block the sun.
I never had no problem with bungees :B

RE: "wallydocking" At Cabelas in Hamburg Pa?

Not been at the PA location lately but the Dundee MI location near me has even revamped their parking lot and made spots just for RVs and even put in a dump station....
......I think the walmart camping idea is being embraced by other retailers and improved....
Lets hope it keeps going

RE: IFS vs. Straight Rail

IFS (independent front suspension) keep wheels in better contact with ground because one wheel can move "independent" of the other. On the straight rail (assuming you mean solid beam front axle) one wheel can not be moved without affecting the other wheel.
Now that being said.....On a BIG HEAVY SLOW motor home.......I don't think either design makes much difference. I don't think many of us corner our MH at 60+mph. If we did everything inside would slide around.
It will matter on sports cars or off road rigs when tire contact for control or traction is important.
There is a difference in cost of aftermarket parts for the different types of front axle but none of them "require" any upgrades when compared to each other.

RE: fantastic fan crank broken

The hand crank has to be pulled down to work "manually" and then pushed back up to work "power"...
Maybe that is all that is wrong....Just in the middle and not engaged in either gear...

RE: Am I being scammed???(UPDATE - IT GETS BETTER!)

You did the right thing. Many of these places use this excuse to get more money. If you think you have a problem, have it checked elsewhere for a second opinion. Otherwise; don't worry about it.
Mark
This is the best advice.....The second opinion is always best and while your at it get a second price....:B
then use the best priced shop that you can trust.....
Just one point to add.....
Imagine your shock if .......
say a wheel came off at the ball joint or you went on a trip just after the new tires were installed and the bearing seized up about 100 miles from home and the shop never mentioned it to you......
Who would you be "Pissed" at then......:M
Its not all a scam. "Licensed" shops do have a "duty" to tell you what they noticed on your car....
Yes some shops do take it to the extreme......:S
You can always decline the repair....
At least then you can't say "they should have told me".:B

RE: Drive Line Disconnect Balance Required?

Below is the answer I got from remco. That's why I am asking the question. Thanks
They quoted me a price and I asked about the driveshaft.
There response:
That price is for the drive shaft and shifter but you may still want to have it balanced at a local drive shaft shop. To balance it you have to have your slip yoke put on it
I believe what they are telling you is simply.....
They can not balance the assembly without all the parts.
I would get the disconnect kit from them and install it. (assuming it is installed correctly) Then test drive it... If it is out of balance you would be the first to know.... then have the hole assembly balanced if needed.
If not smile and drive it...:B

RE: Rear End Ratio on Int. 4200 of 6.50? Why? Is this good?

The 6.50 would give you a lower gear ratio than the 4.50....I know it seams silly but a higher number is a lower ratio.....
The lower gear ratio (6.50) would be better for more "off the line" power but would mean your motor would have to turn at a higher RPM at 65MPH than the same truck with a 4.50.....This means that with the same truck at highway speeds the 6.50 would use MORE fuel than the 4.50.
Remember though that tire outer diameter (measure from the ground to the top of the tire) will also change engine RPM at highway speeds so if you are comparing two different trucks make sure to look at everything "EQUAL".

RE: Securing Items

These bolt cutters are the same type you can get at any hardware store. Those bolt cutters went through the part of the lock that went through the hinge thing like a hot knife through melted butter.
OK....First I would like to....
Thank you for telling the dumb crooks how to do it and where to pick up a pair. (Not everyone that reads this are RV's)
And second....
FYI
Just because you were able to pop through possibly a cheep dollar store pad lock....Does not mean all locks are created equal....We run a salvage operation. I too have had to cut many locks (legally with papers and police approval) and some don't go down as easy.
again
Nothing is 100% we just need to make it tougher.

RE: 36' or 40'

FYI
I was told about that when we bought our class A but you know I have never been told I could not stay and normally I'll tell them 40ft anyway even though mine is a 38ft..It cost me more at some sights but it seems to give me more room to park the toad.
BUT....
like Bud said "I have not been to all of them"

RE: Securing Items

Do the bolt cutters from the truck fit neatly in your back pocket?
I DON'T THINK SO....
Most are huge and heavy.
If someone was walking around a camp ground swinging bolt cutters I am pretty sure someone would say something before they got around to popping locks.
As stated by others "Nothing" is 100% thief proof but you have to make it as tough as possible...Most crooks are lazy and will pass on "tough" and go to an "easy mark".

RE: 87 Honey vs 88 Bounder

What great help.
The poster asks opinions on two "Chevy Powered" RVs, a "Bounder" and a "Honey".
He gets three responses. Get the HR (2) and don't buy the one with the Ford.:?
Ya gotta love this forum.:S
I was just thinking the same thing.....:S
You just beat me to it....
Now to OP questions
This is just my opinion so please don't flame me for it....
The Bounder and Honey are both similar (IE quality, design, built) and since the drive trains are both GM I would think you would need to just look at floor plan (again both are probably similar) and then estimate your cost to rebuild each....Obviously the one without the gen will have a higher estimate to start with unless the gen in the other is toast...
Again this is JM2C but since they are so similar I would Pick the one you would want to see rebuilt for YOU.
not EVERYONE else. :B

RE: Antifreeze & Blow Lines to Winterize?

I do it similar only I don't do #4....
I leave my bypass on and the drain plug out of my Hot water tank so it is empty all winter.
I am in MI so you should be fine doing it that way in your area.
I drain the remaining anti-freeze back out of my fresh water tank...I have a drain valve on mine so it makes it easy...And then we use the antifreez we drained to dump into the toilet if use the RV during the winter.

RE: Big Three Woes?

If their is a "need" for trucks someone will build them.
May not be the big three we are use to but someone will always fill the need.
That's how the world works.....See a need and fill it.:B
Just look at the RV market....The big three (with a few exceptions and not for long) never built an RV but someone else did.

RE: "Set screw" to reduce slop in hitch receiver?

Their was a product to take up slack in the hitch.
I can't find it right now so I don't know if it is still made but it was slid onto the adapter before you installed it in the hitch. Then you tightened a bolt against the outside of the hitch pinching it in place.
The only problem I see with doing it as you suggested would be the possibility of burring your adapter making it difficult to remove once the bolts are removed.

RE: Non Poop Pickin-up

Best thing you could do would be when you see her doggy dumping it.
Kindly ask her if she needs a bag for that? I got one here if you don't.
They either start picking it up after that or they go someplace else...either way it's not near you anymore.
Anything else is likely to cause retaliation or have both of you asked to leave the park

RE: Is this logical?

I think the matter is more about overall quality than cost of fuel. For instance, there is about $100k worth of cabinetry in our coach, the average gasser uses vinyl covered particle board cabinets.
If you're trying to use logic to decide how to camp, then logic dictates you buy a tent...
I like your quote :B
but 100k for cabinets in a MH....:S
We redid our kitchen (much bigger than your RV I am sure) and only put about 25k into cabinets (and no they are not particle board) custom built hard wood. Hole kitchen redo materials was less than 45k with new appliances.
Sorry but I would not be bragging about that.JMO
